William ‘Bill’ Chen holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a quantitative analyst, software designer, and is part of the statistical arbitrage department at Susquehanna International Group. Oh, he’s also a professional poker player with a few major tournaments under his belt.
Born in 1970, Chen is an active member of the Team PokerStars and is a regular at the rec.gambling.poker newsgroup and its offshoot B.A.R.G.E. He is more than happy to talk with his fans and answer their poker related questions as long as the fan is not sitting at the poker table across from him. He has co-authored the book ‘The Mathematics Of Poker’ with Jerrod Ankenman which discusses quantitative techniques and theory as it related to poker. Because of this book and the mathematical equations Chen developed, he was given the title of Honorary Chairman by the Churchill Regular Association for Poker. This is a poker club that is run by mathematicians at the University of Cambridge.
Chen holds two World Series of Poker bracelets and is total live tournament winnings exceed $980,000 some of which was earned in the following tournaments over the last two years:
